Area Information
LOCATION: Redding is located at the north end of the Sacramento Valley. We are 117 miles from the Oregon border, 222 miles north of San Francisco, and 160 miles north of Sacramento on Interstate 5 (the major north/south highway). U.S. Highway 299 connects Redding with California’s coast to the west, and State Highway 44 connects the city to the east.
The city is bordered by the Cascades to one side and the Trinity Alps to the other.
The Sacramento River, one of the finest trout-fishing waters in the Western United States, runs nine miles through the heart of the city.

CLIMATE: Redding enjoys the four seasons, with mild winters and warm summers. Although the Sacramento River winds its way through the center of town, the city’s relative humidity is refreshingly low.
The average rainfall is 38 inches annually, occurring in the late fall and winter.
TRANSPORTATION: Redding is serviced by Redding Municipal Airport, the city’s main commercial airport. Two carriers, Skywest and Horizon Air offer connecting flights throughout the world. Other means of transportation include rail transportation via AmTrak and bus services though Greyhound. San Francisco is only 220 miles from Redding, or a 75 minute flight by air.
EMPLOYERS: The largest employer is in the health and social services area, followed by the retail trade. Other industries well represented are manufacturing, contruction, and transportation.
